I was watching an interview on You Tube a few days ago and this phrase from an old 60’s Janis Joplin song was mentioned. It stuck in my mind and my heart. All week I have been singing that tune. As I delved into its message, I realized how powerful and accurate this wisdom is. For example, if we are responding to a person or situation in a way to avoid being rejected, we are not free. If you dread paying your mortgage every month to keep that great house, you are not free. If you get up every morning wishing you didn’t have to experience this day, you are not free.
Of course, nothing changes in an instant but this a good place to start this Monday morning. Identify just one place where you are keeping yourself in prison rather then letting go of something your mind pattern thinks you need. It can be something small like having lunch with someone you really would rather not see or something big like a thought that you are not safe financially if you take that trip you are longing to take or leave your abusive job in an economic downturn.
Things are changing. Let’s not just talk about freedom but consciously start creating it in our own lives. Freedom is not a right it is a choice and it is one only you can make for yourself. One step at a time and we will arrive at a new level of freedom.
